Ken Ard was elected as Florence County Councilman for District Two in 2004. Since being elected, Ken has been widely recognized for his achievements in such a short tenure.
Ken has played a pivotal role in the "One Cent Makes Sense" referendum. From the beginning, he has campaigned for this issue. Ken felt that his district needed to have safer roads, and more jobs, and this was the solution to problems that residents were faced with in District Two.
Ken Ard was born and raised in Pamplico, South Carolina and has always believed Florence County to be a special place to live. He graduated from Hannah Pamplico High School, and went on to attend Wofford University.
Ken and his brother are third generation owners of Double A Body Builders located in Pamplico. They currently employ 50 to 60 people.
Although Ken has enjoyed professional success, he considers his biggest blessing to be the father of three children, Jesse(16), Mason(14), and Libby(3), and to be married to his wife, Tammy, for twenty years. He is a member of Southside Baptist Church in Florence.
Since being elected as Florence County Councilman, Ken has been appointed to the following committees:
- Florence City County Civic Center Commission
- Chair of Florence County Water Study Committee
Ken decided to get involved in politics because he wanted to make a difference.
